Airitas – Custom Tethering

Airitas Custom Tethering Solutions was created out of necessity by rope access and at-height professionals who recognized a concerning lack of safe, after-market tethering for non-destructive testing equipment. With safety and productivity in mind, the Airitas Team researched not just how to create custom tethering solutions for a few select pieces of NDT equipment, but also what safety, legal and financial risks companies and employees can expect to face should they not properly tether their equipment.

While OSHA states that it is the responsibility of the employer to prevent dropped objects, the regulation does not include any insight or suggestions into that prevention. With fall protection violations consistently being the most cited by OSHA, and over thirty percent of injuries in the oil and gas industry occurring as a direct result of struck-by incidents, the Airitas team knew they had to do their part to lower both statistics. As most of the creators of Airitas are also company officers, they were well aware of the ways in which dropped objects can lower productivity, both from slowed work due to equipment replacement as well as employee injury resulting in time away from work. Financially, the burden of a dropped object incident could collapse a smaller company from just one incident. One insurance company reported over five million dollars in struck-by incidents in one year alone.

With the current method for tethering most NDT and other equipment falling into the category of “do it yourself,” using duct tape and at-home fixes, it is no surprise the statistics on dropped objects are so high. Designing custom solutions for each piece of equipment was a natural and logical progression, and Airitas began creating boots, vest pouches, belts and harness systems for NDT and other equipment with the help of experts in the field. The ability to utilize these custom solutions is of such importance not just for the bottom line, but for the health and safety of those who use the equipment or work on the job sites where this equipment is used.

Airitas products provide technicians with new, safer and more efficient ways to perform their job duties by allowing for safe positioning techniques. Custom tethering and positioning systems offer users the ability to concentrate on their job duties without the concern of slipping duct tape, unsteady positioning, or the potential to drop and break machinery costing thousands of dollars.

Airitas’s goals are simple: provide companies, employees, and end-users the ability to perform their job duties in a safe, secure manner to allow for maximum efficiency and safety, without the worry of the loss of equipment and/or thousands of dollars in downtime, broken equipment, and insurance costs. You would never leave the house without your $1,000 smartphone protected by a case, why would you use a $5,000+ piece of equipment without giving it the same level of protection?
